Pendant que tous les lieux de spectacle du pays étaient fermés et que le coeur du monde de la culture battait au ralenti du fait de la pandémie de Covid-19, le pianiste de jazz Emmanuel Borghi en a profité pour prendre le temps de ressortir les embryons de compositions qu’il avait rangé dans ses placards depuis plusieurs années. Cela faisait longtemps que l’ancien claviériste de Magma avait orienté son travail autour de la recherche de nouvelles sonorités et couleurs harmoniques. Les confinements successifs lui ont donné l’occasion de peaufiner ces ébauches et, très vite, l’idée lui est venue de les expérimenter en live, au sein d’un groupe spécialement conçu pour jouer ce répertoire. L’immense talent des jeunes musiciens Ariel Tessier et Théo Girard autant que leur motivation de faire partie de cette aventure ont convaincu Emmanuel Borghi : un nouveau trio était né. A la base de ce projet, il y a le souhait du compositeur de travailler sur des techniques dodécaphoniques et de les adapter à la formule du trio. Ici, les thèmes sont des prétextes à l'improvisation et le résultat est un perpétuel renouvellement sur scène, les morceaux ne sonnant jamais tout à fait pareil. C’est également autour de ce postulat, de cette remise en question permanente et de ce refus de la redite qu’Emmanuel Borghi a souhaité œuvrer pour l’élaboration de ce magnifique disque que vous tenez actuellement entre vos mains. Tout au long des séances d’enregistrement, mains dans la main avec l’ingénieur du son que l’on ne présente plus, Philippe Tessier Ducros, le groupe a transformé l’essai, et de la plus belle des manières ! En live comme sur vos enceintes, le trio Borghi continuera toujours de s’amuser et ne cessera jamais de vous surprendre !

While all the country's performance venues were closed and the heart of the world of culture was beating in slow motion due to the Covid-19 pandemic, jazz pianist Emmanuel Borghi took the opportunity to take the time to bring out the embryos of compositions that he had kept in his cupboards for several years. It had been a long time since the former Magma keyboardist had oriented his work around the search for new sounds and harmonic colors. The successive confinements gave him the opportunity to refine these sketches and, very quickly, the idea came to him to experiment them live, within a group specially designed to play this repertoire. The immense talent of young musicians Ariel Tessier and Théo Girard as much as their motivation to be part of this adventure convinced Emmanuel Borghi: a new trio was born. At the base of this project, there is the desire of the composer to work on dodecaphonic techniques and to adapt them to the formula of the trio. Here, the themes are pretexts for improvisation and the result is a perpetual renewal on stage, the pieces never sounding quite the same. It is also around this postulate, this permanent questioning and this refusal of repetition that Emmanuel Borghi wished to work for the elaboration of this magnificent disc that you currently hold in your hands. Throughout the recording sessions, hand in hand with the sound engineer who needs no introduction, Philippe Tessier Ducros, the group transformed the essay, and in the most beautiful way! Live and on your speakers, the Borghi trio will always continue to have fun and will never cease to surprise you!

Musique du réel, qui se donne ici, tout au moins une part de lui, à entendre (et voir) débarrassé de nos filtres, de nos pensées, jugements, fausses visions, certes par le moyen d’une médiation qui ne perd pas sa subjectivité, mais qui se laisse traverser tout entière (médiation d’ailleurs multiple, ceci dit pour souligner le formidable travail accompli pour la réalisation de cet album). Nous pourrions l’appeler musique de « l’entre-monde », non pas un ail… mais je manque de place pour continuer Serge Marcel Roche
